Conference Recap

On Tuesday, November 29, 2011 over five hundred math professionals gathered to attend the annual ATOMIC Fall Conference held at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell. Participants had a choice of thirty-six different sessions and presenters were from all over New England.

The highlight of the conference was keynote speaker, Steve Leinwand, who presented; “The Common Core State Standards for Mathematics: Hopes, Fears, and Challenges”. It was standing room only as Steve educated and entertained the audience regarding the state of math education in Connecticut and around the world.

In order to honor Steve’s dedication to math education and his contribution to math in Connecticut, ATOMIC has renamed its grant: The ATOMIC Steve Leinwand Teaching Grant.

ATOMIC also honors Connecticut teachers with two awards: the Robert A. Rosenbaum Award and the Mari Muri Award.
The Robert A. Rosenbaum Award was presented to Tim Craine.

The day was a great success, and we were joined by many vendors from whom our participants were able to gather new information.

In 2012, ATOMIC will be hosting the NCTM Eastern Regional Conference in Hartford, October 24-26.
