Chapter 13 – Option 3 (Action)

Tracy notes that her approach in the book is to “offer you a buffet of techniques and strategies” to use in your teaching.  What specific goal do you have going forward?  [In my personal opinion, it is easier to identify & achieve a specific goal than a general goal. Good luck!]

My specific goal for the end of this year and next year is to help the teachers become part of the group. Allow the students to see "inside" the teacher's brain, especially when something doesn't make sense, be vulnerable. Allowing students to know that we are in this together helps the students who believe they are not math people, yes even at the young K-2 age I have heard this, that we are all math people. I am working on those teachers who say, I'm just not a math person, to be a math person by just doing MATH!

Overall, there are so many ideas in here that I want to implement and can't wait to share with my teachers, but that is more general, and everything will come in due time!

The ATOMIC Mission is to ensure that every Connecticut student receives world-class education in mathematics by providing vision, leadership and support to the K-16 mathematics community and by providing every teacher of mathematics the opportunity to grow professionally.
